Velvet Static

Acrylic and oil on canvas · 110 × 110 cm

Velvet Static borrows the language of a detuned television — scan lines, signal bars, interference — and softens it into something almost tactile. At the centre, a single magenta disc pulses like a station trying to come through.

Painted during a week of heavy rain when the studio radio would hold a signal for seconds at a time.
